Trading money for virtual game goods has always been a sketchy issue. This is even more true with World of Warcraft where gold bares a critical role in game play. Some game publishers and players consider this a major form of cheating while others either don't care or encourage it. Lets take a closer look at each sides general argument and then come up with our own conclusions. Although this is a wide topic, I will focus mostly on this issue and and how it pertains to World of Warcraft. Arguments Against: Not only does buying gold or in game goods cheapen the game experience for the player and for the community but it also ruins the World of Warcraft economy. The player has not earned the gold while other legitimate gamers spent hours earning their gold through proper means. Buying gold isn't fair because it enables the rich to gain an advantage over those who can't afford to spend money. Arguments For Gold Buying: Buying gold does not ruin the economy because the gold already existed within the realm in one form or another. The gold is merely being put into use and that has no affect on the economy. If I buy 5000 gold so that I can use a flying epic mount how has that ruined the economy or cheapened the game experience for others? Buying gold neither cheapens the World of Warcraft experience nor the economy. Some players do not have 14 hours a day to play World of Warcraft and be able to not only earn gold in the game and participate in fun game play such as dungeons, raids and pvp. Many people have jobs, families and a life outside of World of Warcraft and can only play a few hours a week. Why should they play catch-up or not be able to participate in the game because they don't have hours on end to quest, farm and trade for gold? Buying gold for World of Warcraft allows us to make up for the disadventages of not being able to play hours on end. Conclusion: Although both sides have valid points, I personally don't see any problems with buying gold and have in my on occasions bought gold when I only had just a few hours a week to play. Although I haven't bought gold for nearly four months since I've started using gold making techniques to make gold fast, I see nothing wrong with the practice. To be able to play at an advanced level in World of Warcraft such arenas or raids players need a great deal of gold. To participate in high level raids, each player generally spends hundreds if not thousands of WoW gold on repairs, potions and reagents. Those that have the time to gather the gold or materials needed well good for them. But like many others I have a job and family and can only play a few hours a day, why should I be penalized for not spending 100% of my life to a game? I'm already spending $15 a month just to play the game so why not spend a few more bucks and be able to do the things I enjoy in the game? Everyone has their own view on this issue.
